The Eternal Daughter

An artist and her elderly mother confront long-buried secrets when they return to a former family home that’s now a hotel haunted by its mysterious past. Joanna Hogg's autobiographical fantasy of memory and love plays like a beautifully strange romance between daughter and mother. Tilda Swinton has never been better, creating a fascinating and subtle depiction of two intertwined characters who know each other intimately but are also strangers.

The trailer doesn't do it justice by the way. It's not simply a moderately creepy horror film. Hogg uses this trope to convey the serious and sad wistfulness of a dissolving dream.
