Katalin Varga

Katalin Varga

directed by
Peter Strickland
with
Norbert Tankó, Hilda Péter, Andrea Gavriliu, Robert Giacomello

Katalina’s husband has discovered an appalling secret from her past and banishes her from their home. She takes her 10-year-old son and, traveling from village to village by horse and cart, seeks to revenge herself on the perpetrators of her shameful injustice. This powerful, hallucinatory drama comes on like one of Thomas Hardy’s darkest tales, with a British director conjuring a disturbing and brooding psychological atmosphere in deepest, darkest Romania. Brilliant!
